Senior Off-Campus Privileges 2022-23

*Please read this in its entirety and fill out the form at the bottom for approval of privileges..

Seniors who demonstrate good work ethic, responsibility, behavior will have the option to leave campus at lunch and/or during any 1st or 8th period study halls.  These privileges serve as an excellent incentive to motivate senior students.  Therefore, senior off-campus privilege is an earned privilege.

During the first week of school, seniors are required to have lunch on campus, to attend advisory, and to attend any 1st or 8th period study halls.  After the first week, seniors who meet the criteria listed below will be allowed to have off-campus lunch and off-campus 1st or 8th period scheduled study hall.

Eligibility Requirements for Off-Campus Privileges
  • Academic and behavior expectations must be met or the privilege will be revoked.  This includes maintaining a 75 average or above in all classes each grading period.  If the grade falls below 75, privileges will be revoked for 5 calendar days.  If, after 5 calendar days, all grade averages are 75 or above, privileges will be reinstated.  If not, privileges will not be reinstated until the next grading period.  If a student has an Incomplete, the student must clear the Incomplete and be passing to re-earn this privilege.

  • Approval from the attendance clerk that the student has had no first period tardies (medical late check-in is the exception) and has not had excessive absences.

  • Parent approval, absolving the school from all liability.

  • Approval by every teacher that the student is meeting all responsibilities of the class, giving every assignment his/her best effort, maintaining a strong organizational system, and being fully cooperative with classroom guidelines and expectations.  Any Senior whose social behavior or conduct is of such nature as to jeopardize the good name of the school community, or which is detrimental to the common good, or harmful and offensive to staff or other students will automatically lose this privilege.

  • Approval from the office that the student has not received any Behavior Notices and is in compliance with the uniform guidelines.

Additional guidelines include the following:
  • Seniors must report to advisory period every day for school announcements and attendance.  Advisors will release seniors for off-campus lunch if eligible.  Advisors may keep seniors anytime necessary for grade level or school business.   In addition, all seniors will attend Advisory every Monday.  Seniors may sign out for lunch after advisory, but must return and be on time for 6th period (7th period on Friday).

  • Students leaving campus for lunch must sign out and sign in at the attendance desk.  No student may sign in or out for another student.

  • The school may require students to stay on campus for lunch and/or advisory on an as-needed basis for special programs, Homecoming week, meetings, inclement weather, etc.

  • Shelton students represent the school in the community.  Any action that damages Shelton’s reputation could result in the student losing senior privileges in addition to facing other consequences as outlined in the parent/student handbook.

  • Students may not walk off campus to any nearby restaurants or business.

  • Students may not bring food back for students in other grade levels.  However, seniors may bring back food for other seniors.

  • Upon returning to campus, the students are to remain in the Dining Hall or Senior Lounge until it is time to go to their next class.  Students are encouraged to remain off-campus until shortly before class resumes (1:45 Monday – Thursday; 1:50 Friday.)

  • If a student leaves campus for lunch without appropriate authorization, consequences may include suspension and the loss of senior privileges for the remainder of the semester.

  • Students who have not earned off-campus privilege MUST attend advisory and must eat lunch in the Dining Hall or Senior Lounge.

  • Students who have not earned off-campus privileges MUST attend all classes as well as any 1st or 8th period study halls on his/her schedule.

  • A student may lose the privilege for any of the following:

    • Earning a Behavior Notice (discipline, uniform violation, cell phone etc.)

    • Earning an Academic Notice (grades dropping below a 70% average)

    • Tardy to school or class; returning late to school from off-campus lunch

    • Unsafe driving (on or off campus); parking lot violations
