About the Space:

Cafe Social was born the day the Coronavirus Pandemic was announced.  Lisa and Brent, the co-founders of Cafe Social were hiking off the grid in New Zealand.  

On a mountain pass, they briefly had cell phone reception, just enough to find out that the world had completely changed.

And they spent the next few days not seeing any human beings and brainstorming how they could help.  Once they emerged into civilization, they quickly connected with Jon, a former engineering colleague, and Cafe Social was born!

A few days later we posted our VISION for Cafe Social:
 
With the global lockdowns, we have lost something even more precious than our freedom to move.  We have lost our social spaces like cafes, playgrounds and gyms. And we urgently need to restore these face to face human connections.

We believe what we need to fill that gap is spontaneous, no agenda, no pressure connection with neighbors and strangers.

You know, like the casual “hi, how’s it going?”, “nice glasses” or “isn’t the news just crazy?”

The casual smile, the quick remark exchanged with someone, the funny story someone shares while waiting in line.

And that smile - the smile of the barista, the smile of the person opening the door for you (ah, the days of touching door knobs…) - that gave you the sense that all was well in the world.

Don’t you miss that?

I know we do.

Now imagine connecting with these neighbors and strangers who are all united in one goal - getting through the Coronavirus pandemic.

Because this connection is so vital to you and me, we're launching a virtual space to fill that gap in a few days with a MISSION TO DRIVE 1 MILLION SMILES AROUND THE WORLD!

And we need your help!

The space is called Cafe Social and it’s a very simple idea. You enter the cafe and get matched with another cafe guest. You chat via video for up to 10 minutes one on one. After the connection is over, you’ll have a chance to share your email directly with the person. Or, you could just go and chat with the next person.

You can chat about anything really, but the community has one goal - make the other person smile! And make them smile as much as you can!

Because there’s only one metric at Cafe Social we care about and that’s 1 MILLION SMILES!!!

Our goal is to build a global community of support and connection. And to have fun and get our social “fix” at the virtual cafe. To preserve the integrity of the community, we’re seeding it with our own friends. And THAT MEANS YOU!

The cafe will be invite-only to start.  Initially, we expect the cafe to be open an hour a day, but the opening hours will expand as our community grows!

And the best part?

You give and get smiles daily in a never-ending daisy chain of connection!

During the BETA phase, we expect the cafe to be open 1-2 hours per day, and we hope to extend the opening time very quickly :)

In the beginning, people will be invited to join the cafe only by the original BETA Cafe members.  Membership is FREE.
