Please fill out the form below if you want to register for the Seal of Biliteracy.
Deadline:
Monday, January 22nd, 2024.
In order to earn the Seal of Biliteracy, students must:
(a) Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English by satisfying one of the following:
1.
Earn a score of 472 or higher on the Grade 10 Next-Gen ELA (501 for Distinction) or
2.
Earn a score of 455 or higher on the Grade 10 Next-Gen ELA MCAS (MCAS), complete an Educational Proficiency Plan, and/or earn a 4.2 overall on ACCESS.
(b) Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a world language through one of the following:
1.
Attaining a minimum score equivalent to Intermediate-High on a state approved assessment
or
2.
For languages that do not have readily available assessments, completing a portfolio demonstrating Intermediate-High proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening.
There is no cost for the exam.
Latin students take the ALIRA which will involve one class period on March 11th, 2024. This is a reading exam.
Most other languages require the AAPPL exam:
--The exam will be the week of March 11th - March 14th, 2024. You will miss some classes that week and will be responsible for contacting your teachers and making up all work.
--The exam assesses the 4 skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Not all languages have an approved exam. In that case, the student must assemble a portfolio which must be completed March 18, 2024. All evidence and scores must be submitted to the school.
