Dear Chancellor May:
We write to call your attention to the dysfunction of the UCPath system, which severely affects the morale and well-being of the UC Davis students, staff, and faculty.
We are all upset with the lack of immediate response when bringing a problem to UCPath's attention, the default 3-5 days to return voice messages, and the endless excuses about understaffing. We have observed (or heard of) disastrous problems caused by UCPath, such as:
(i) graduate students and postdoctoral scholars not getting paid promptly;
(ii) faculty's insurance canceled during pregnancy,
(iii) staff going to doctor's appointments only to find out they have no health insurance,
(iv) benefits dropping out of accounts, and
(v) accrued vacation time disappearing from accounts, to cite a few dire problems.
The local staff is understandably highly frustrated. Before UC implemented a centralized system, these were non-existing issues or problems the local staff would fix immediately. Nowadays, they hear the concerns of students, staff, and faculty but cannot help due to the centralization of a dysfunctional system.
We respectfully request your immediate intervention and advocacy on behalf of UC Davis employees to find a permanent solution for this long-standing system-wide problem.
