Re: December 2021 passage of “Right To Life” resolution

We, the undersigned residents of Ashe County, formally disagree with your  adoption of the “Right To Life” resolution, passed on December 20, 2021.  We represent a variety of beliefs in the county and our oppositions to the  resolution vary and may include but are not limited to the following:  

The right to have an abortion is a long-standing legal precedent  in the United States of America and in North Carolina.

The CHOICE of what to do with a pregnancy is a deeply personal  decision and ultimately belongs to the person who is pregnant.

Passing a resolution that applies to the entire county yet is based on the personal beliefs of commissioners - rather than focused on advancing the best interests of all county residents - is NOT the job of the Ashe County Commissioners.  

We strongly encourage you to reconsider your role in the adoption of future resolutions that are based on opinions and beliefs and ask that you focus your duties on matters that directly concern the governance of Ashe County.
