In this retreat, students will learn the foundational movements of capoeira, the vibrant Afro-Brazilian art form that blends fluid kicks, ground movements, and music. Alongside physical practice, students will explore the rich history and cultural roots of capoeira.

Instructor:
Mestre Jamaika (Mauro Romualdo) is an internationally recognized capoeira master with over 30 years of experience engaging students and audiences worldwide. Born in Bahia, the birthplace of capoeira and his Afro-Brazilian ancestral land, he is passionate about honoring his heritage by sharing this powerful art form and strengthening communities through movement and music.

Itinerary:

FRIDAY

  • 6 pm: dinner at at on-site farm-to-table restaurant Sweetwater Kitchen (included in cost)
  • 7 pm: capoeira film screening
  • After the film: fire gathering with story telling, music, and discussion

SATURDAY

  • 9 am: yoga
  • After yoga: heart-opening cacao ceremony to start your day with intention and gratitude
  • Lunch break
  • Afternoon: waterfall walk and sound bath
  • 4:30 pm - community capoeira class with Mestre Jamaika and capoeira roda (circle)
  • Evening: BBQ potluck
  • After BBQ: fire gathering with story telling, music, and discussion
SUNDAY
  • 10 am: land walk with Brandie, the owner and steward of Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch
  • After the land walk: closing capoeira roda (circle)

Meals:

The price of the retreat includes Friday night dinner at at on-site farm-to-table restaurant Sweetwater Kitchen. Please bring your own day snacks, breakfasts, lunches, and food to contribute to our potluck BBQ on Saturday evening (we will have a refrigerator available in the shared cabin).

Breakfasts and/or lunches can also be ordered to-go from Sweetwater Kitchen HERE. The deadline to order these is April 4. 

Lodging:

Lodging is not included in the retreat price. Please book your room directly with Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch.

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable layered clothes to walk, hike, and play capoeira in
  • Breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday, snacks, and drinks
  • Food to contribute to our potluck dinner on Saturday
