4th Annual TIS STEM Fair - 2021 VOLUNTEER JUDGE FORM
This year's STEM now faces its biggest challenge yet! Due to the COVID pandemic, we will be holding our STEM Fair virtually. For the first time, students are invited from our sister schools, Near West Intergeneration School and Lakeshore Intergenerational School and we now anticipate projects from up to nearly 200 students from grades 3-8th!

Due to the need to conduct this fair virtually coupled with the high number of estimated projects, this year's creative strategy for judging projects include: submissions that use Google Slides, and 2 successive rounds of judging (see next).

Round #1 - VIRTUAL (not live) JUDGING - TWO WEEKS from Friday, April 2nd - Mon April 12th
About 20 virtual (not live) judges needed; each judge to be assigned 10 Google Slide projects to score from a website that will have all projects uploaded. There is no live virtual presentation in this round. This is estimated to take a total of one hour of volunteer time and judges will have 11 days to complete judging. The top three scored projects from each grade level will move on to next round (Round #2) for virtual (live) judging (see next). There should be a total of about 9 finalists from all grade levels.  The grade levels at TIS are organized as follows:

Developing Stage (Grades 3-4), Refining Stage (Grades 5-6), and Applying Stage (Grades 7-8th).

Round #2: VIRTUAL (live) JUDGING Friday, April 16th, 1-3pm
9 virtual (live) judges needed to judge the 9 projects from the previous round. Each student will have a few  minutes to individually present their own project, one at a time, live to a panel of 3 judges via a zoom meeting with screen share. After each presentation, the panel will have a few minutes for Q&A.   Each judge will score one grade level (3 projects)  and should take about 30 minutes total. The average panel score of each project will  determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each grade group.

Complete this form to volunteer; judges will be confirmed via email. There will be an orientation zoom call in mid-March, date & time TBA.

Brief history and progression of the TIS STEM Fair:

The first fair occurred in Spring 2018. Despite many odds including catastrophic flooding which closed the school for several weeks, we had 17 students that presented projects.

The 2nd fair occurred in Spring 2019, where 22 students participated. Half of these students were participating as their first time.

The 3rd fair occurred in December 2019.  We had 113 students participating in teams, with 51 projects!
