East Building, 239 Greene Street Room 302

This workshop is presented by Ms. Yamin Ma. Ms. Yamin Ma holds a BA degree in English Language and Literature from Shanghai Normal University in China and an M.Ed. in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Queen’s University in Canada. She taught English at secondary schools and universities in China, Canada and Hong Kong for over ten years. She has rich experience in teaching IGCSE and A-levels (U.K.) and IB Language B Chinese courses.

The workshop will be divided into three parts: 1) the presenter’s experience of transitioning herself from an English teacher to a Chinese teacher, 2) criteria for setting up a Chinese curriculum, and 3) the three elements of teaching: the teacher, teaching materials and pedagogy. Seven rules of “balance” when designing the curriculum will be introduced at the workshop. With regards to the teaching materials, some guidelines and a flexible and skillful use of materials at hand will also be discussed.
