The Mount Sinai Human Rights Program (MSHRP) is hosting a no-cost, in-person forensic evaluation of asylum seekers training on
Saturday, September 9th, 2023 from 9:30AM to 4:30PM EST.
This training is designed for Mount Sinai Health System-affiliated clinicians (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD, NP, LCSW, and LMHC) and eligible medical / graduate students.
Sinai Faculty: you can access this training via Zoom if you are unable to attend in person.
Licensed clinicians who are not Sinai-affiliated (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD, NP, LCSW, and LMHC) may participate in this training as part of their preparation to join the MSHRP Remote Evaluator Network (REN). We also have spaces available for licensed clinical professionals who intend to provide pro bono evaluations with other human rights programs.
Our faculty experts will provide an overview of the pro bono physical, psychological, and gynecological evaluation of survivors of persecution and torture. The training will also include informational sessions on current trends in human rights, basics of immigration law, and trauma-informed interviewing. Experienced forensic evaluators will also facilitate specialty-specific break-out groups that focus on strategies for the preparation of medico-legal affidavits.
Completion of the full training is necessary before Icahn School of Medicine students are permitted to shadow experienced evaluators at the MSHRP and before eligible licensed clinicians are able to continue the process of joining the MSHRP evaluator network.
