Mohawk VEX IQ and VEX EDR Tournament Volunteer Form    Event Date:  Saturday, February 22, 2020
This is a request for help for Mohawk's third annual robotics tournament. This is a huge undertaking that takes place in both Mohawk buildings, and I sincerely appreciate all the help!  

This request is for help with both the IQ tournament (middle school ) and EDR (high school) tournaments.

Please read the descriptions of the roles, and check all roles you would be willing to volunteer for.

If you have selected multiple roles, use the final question to rank your choices in order of desirability.

Training is provided for all roles.

correct location on the competition field
• Move quickly around the field
• Good listening skills

Organize and oversee all
Referee/Scorekeepers. Interpret and
consistently enforce the rules of the game to
score the match upon completion, and is the
final authority for any disputes or rulings. Train
Referees/Scorekeepers as needed.

Experience level:  ADVANCED - must have attended VEX IQ events, and be willing to familiarize themselves with current game rules.

Conduct inspections to verify the robots comply with the rules and specifications outlined in the Game Manual.

• Basic knowledge of robot construction and familiarity with VEX IQ Challenge parts

• Follow inspection checklist

This is a very short job at the beginning of the tournament, and combines very well with other jobs.

Engineering and Design Judge - works as a part of a judge team
Evaluate student teams through interviews,
Engineering Notebooks, and on the field performance.
Present awards as needed.

Prefer some judging experience but will take beginners
and train quickly

On-field officials closely watch the competition
to ensure that competition rules are followed.
Arbitrate disputes and validate match scores. If

the designated scoring tool, tablet, or paper
sheet.

• Experienced volunteers preferred for Referee role; Scorekeepers only can be new volunteers and trained
quickly
• Apply knowledge of the game and rules

• Work effectively as a member of a team

Welcome teams as they arrive. Verify teams,
hand out materials, and collect Engineering
Notebooks. Answer basic questions. Typically,
Team Check-in becomes the Information Table
after all teams arrive.

Help build the tournament on Friday, February 21.  Set up times will be identified soon.  I am looking for people willing to help unload the equipment trailer, assemble the fields, set up the fields, distribute paperwork, set up concessions, arrange tables, chairs, and rooms.

Volunteer Assistant Coordinator (Help Ms. Klein)
Recruit, track, assign, train, supervise and
communicate with all additional volunteers
needed for the event, ensuring all essential
positions are filled so that the event can run on
schedule. Provide food and water in a break
room to volunteers.

Experience level:  Beginner

• Help schedule volunteers for roles and shifts
• Precise time management and adherence to strict
schedule
• Communicate clearly and effectively
• Stay organized and make required shift changes in fast
paced environment
