Year 10 Further Maths GCSE
This online course is taught by Niall Thompson, ULMaS Head of Outreach and the Aspiring Mathematicians Programme.

Please note that this course is not intended for Year 11 students, as it will run over a calendar year until January 2022. If you are currently in Year 11 and want to take part in ULMaS outreach courses, then you might like to join our Year 11 Algebra for A Level course, which will run until the end of the academic year.

If you are a Year 10 student doing well in Maths, then Further Maths GCSE is a great way to build on your existing skills to broaden your knowledge of Maths, and ULMaS is excited to be delivering a course rarely delivered in Secondary Schools to the keenest Mathematicians across our region. This course will introduce you to branches of Maths most Secondary students would not usually study, including Calculus and Matrices which both have numerous real world applications. An excellent first foray into topics covered in A Level Maths and A Level Further Maths, we hope this course will help current GCSE students make the transition to A Level study, keeping your STEM subject options wide open for a huge variety of competitive university courses.

We're providing this course partly because we want to help students whose education has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lessons are expected to take place every Thursday at 4:30-5:30pm. The first session will take place on 28th January.

Recordings will be available for those who have to miss lessons, but regular attendance is expected.

We have not yet decided how long the course will continue for but will discuss this with students who join the course.

There is no charge to take part in this course but priority will be given to students in state funded schools in the Liverpool City Region.

You will need:
- a quiet place to work at home or school
- a computer or tablet that can join a Zoom meeting (microphone and camera not necessary) [if this is a problem please apply anyway and we'll try to find a way to help]
- to be able to join our Google Classroom (you may need to use a personal Google account for this as your school account may not be able to join our classroom)
- the commitment and time to complete work set outside lessons
- pencil and paper

The course is open to Year 10 students in schools in Merseyside and the North West.  You will need to provide a contact email address for the school you attend so that we can check who you are and confirm your suitability for a place.  We will let your school know that you are taking part and may occasionally update them on your progress or contact them if we have any concerns.
