Coaching Application 20-21
All coaching positions are now open for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Coaching appointments are made for a one-year period and must be renewed annually. Coaching salaries will be as per the negotiated collective bargaining agreement between the Smithtown Teachers’ Association and the Smithtown Central School District Board of Education. Salaries increase with years of coaching and team level.
High School positions (except for golf, bowling and swimming) require a general commitment to daily, Saturday, and vacation day practices which has been established in the computation of hours spent in coaching. Middle School positions carry the same responsibilities, but are not required to practice on Saturdays and vacation days. In addition, the mandatory Section XI rules interpretation, District annual coaches meeting, and district awards ceremonies (varsity) are similarly computed into the coaching stipend. This hourly obligation requires that a two-hour daily practice schedule be conducted with the team in their activity. This does not include dressing or showering time.
Coaches, other than physical education teachers, must complete the State required courses for their sport within five (5) years of their initial coaching assignment. Non-certified staff must obtain their coach’s license prior to Board of Education approval. All coaching licenses must be renewed annually until all qualifications are met to obtain a professional coaching license.
Indicate all positions that you are interested in coaching. Don’t assume a coaching position is retained from year to year. Coaching opportunities can occur unexpectedly.
The middle school Cheerleading and Kickline coaching positions require a two season (fall & early winter) commitment which is on an alternate day’s practice/competition schedule.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY JUNE 10, 2020.
