You can read the following content on our website at www.napawfnyc.org/lc-member-application.

Mission & History: The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) is dedicated to building a movement to advance social justice and human rights for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women, girls, trans, & GNC people. NAPAWF unites our diverse communities through organizing, education, and advocacy. Founded in 1996, there are NAPAWF chapters in Arizona, Atlanta, Bay Area, Greater Boston area, Chicago, Colorado, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Orange County, San Diego, Seattle, St. Cloud, Twin Cities, and Washington, DC.

As a founding chapter, the New York City Chapter builds power with members to advance social justice and human rights for Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander self-identified women living in New York. We are a community of AANHPI feminist visionaries and doers, dedicated to using our respective skills and expertise to raise our voices, take bold, meaningful action, and lift up our community.

Vision: We believe in a world where AANHPI women, girls, and people have the political, economic, and social power and resources to live and thrive with dignity and respect.

Background: The Leadership Committee members play an essential part in shaping the priorities of NAPAWF*NYC and determining what the chapter's areas of focus will be for the year. Serving on the Committee is a great opportunity to contribute your skills and energy to a meaningful progressive movement, while acquiring and/or honing skills such as coalition-building, outreach, organizing, meeting facilitation, policy advocacy, event coordination, fundraising, and general public leadership. Last, but not least, being on the Committee also allows you to plug into an amazing personal and professional network.

NAPAWF*NYC is looking to grow our Leadership Committee (LC)! There are currently five LC members and we’re looking to add three more. In particular, we hope incoming members will have expertise in or skills related to communications, design, and membership engagement.

NAPAWF LC members play an integral role in the chapter. We operate with an All Hands On Deck mentality though we also play to our strengths and focus on specific areas described below. Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

--All LC members:
*Lead ongoing campaigns, encourage membership to participate in campaigns and other chapter activities
*Set goals for the year, work with organizer to move our work forward to help reach those goals, help evaluate our work
*Represent and be the face of the organization to the media and with partner organizations
*Identify, participate in and support outreach events to engage new members
*Collaborate with other chapters on collaborative campaigns, Power Up, actions and relevant preparatory planning meetings
*Mentor and support members to understand who we are, our work, why we organize.

--Membership:
*Build partnerships with other organizations.
*Engage the public and increase activist and membership engagement with events, campaigns, and the chapter.

--Events:
*Plan and execute events including coming up with topics, planning logistics such as space and food, creating the agenda, facilitating member involvement

--Communications:
*Prepare and coordinate online communications from chapter to members and base of potential members including writing and sending email blasts, managing social media, updating our website.
*Help manage communication with media and press, including writing press releases, talking points, and social media guidance.

--Finance & Operations:
*Monitor chapter funds and work with NAPAWF staff, including facilitating reimbursements.
*Help manage the chapter and LC calendar.

Eligibility:
Must be a dues paying NAPAWF member in good standing since March 2019.
Attended at least two member meetings
Volunteered at least two times (includes outreach, The Study Group, campaigns)

LC Members Expectations:
--Commit to serving on the LC for two years. NAPAWF NYC is engaged in long-term power and base building and LC members play an integral role in these efforts. Therefore, we expect that LC members will be able to serve for at least two years to ensure continuity.
--Be in communication with LC members and NAPAWF organizers about decision making and capacity, among other things. We generally make decisions by consensus and communicate in-person and over email and Signal/text. While we have regularly scheduled meetings, there are some instances that require a faster turnaround or rapid response (~24 hours) decision making.
--Attend and participate in LC meetings (twice a month via video conference) and all-day retreats (every three months). We will work to schedule LC meetings and retreats with advance notice to ensure that all LC members can attend.
--Support the planning and execution of NAPAWF NYC events and activities such as study groups, canvassing/outreach events, fundraisers, potlucks. Currently, there are approximately two events a month-- The Study Group series and monthly member meeting.
