AVHS 2022-23 Instructional Capital Expenditure Rationale
There are two categories of Capital Expenditure requests (items over $500):
1) Facilities                                                          to be submitted to Mike Schwanke
2) Instructional Equipment                                   to be submitted to Drew by Jan 31, 2022

Potential Priorities & Parameters for Instructional Capital Requests
Student achievement, equity, and sustainability should drive all budget requests. Requests should satisfy one or more of the following criteria:
o Provide support to sustain the excellence we have come to expect in academics, arts, and athletics
o Ensure that each student has access to an engaging, high-rigor curriculum that fosters curiosity, creativity, and resilience as “problem finders” and “solution makers”
o Support equitable outcomes for growth and college and career readiness regardless of students' race, class, sex, home language, and/or disability
o Promote social-emotional development in a safe, supportive, nurturing, and inclusive school climate

Determine accurate cost and priority for each item
Contact a vendor to request a unit price (plus shipping) estimate.  Phone or online quotes are the quickest method. Do enough shopping to determine the best price possible for each item requested.
The threshold for Capital Outlay requests is at $500 or more per item. Purchases of multiple small items, e.g. student desks, can be combined to meet the $500 threshold.
Establish a priority rank for each item requested from your department.

Reminder: Identify textbook needs (replacement and new) for next year, knowing numbers can be adjusted for student enrollment at a later date.

NOTE:  District Regulation 704.2AR requires purchase orders for capital purchases over $5,000; capital purchases estimated at less than $25,000 require verbal or written quotations, direct negotiations or direct purchase; see District Regulation 704.2AR https://goo.gl/Wazckb for further regulations for capital purchases greater than $25,000. See Dana Ashenden with questions.
