The Association Tunisienne Femmes Ingénieures  ATFI organizes a "GENDER AND INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP" training in partnership with the US Embassy as part of the Fulbright US program


The training will be led by Professor Amy K. Levin, Professor Emerita, Northern Illinois University

Cohort1: May 10, 11 ,12 ; 14h-18h and May 13 ; 09h-18h
Cohort2: May 17-20 ; 14h-18h and May 21 ; 09h-14h

Description:

Institute participants will develop skills necessary for career advancement and inclusive leadership with a particular emphasis on gender. As they proceed through the course, they will create a toolbox or portfolio of materials for future use. This interactive, dynamic program will thus enable participants to move forward as well as to mentor or coach others as they progress in their careers.
Certificates will be granted on successful completion of the course, with additional endorsement(s) available to those who fulfill experiential projects or enroll in more advanced trainings.

Communications
Leadership, management, and supervision
Organizational development/strategic planning
Inclusion and diversity, especially gender in the workplace and among leaders
Expanding the field (using what has been learned to bring others forward)

Schedule:

SESSION 1:

1-Introductions and goals. What is inclusive leadership?

2-The gendered construction of knowledge/systemic discrimination – how they still affect us.
SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis of situation for women engineers in Tunisia today
Leadership barriers and opportunities
Career leadership as preparation for other forms of leadership
What the inventory means for you: Setting goals and holding yourself accountable
Electronic portfolio or toolbox introduction
Characteristics of effective leaders – leadership styles.

3. SESSION 2 :
Strategic communications – up the hierarchy, with equals, and down the hierarchy
Hidden and nonverbal communication (stereotype threat, microaggressions, implicit bias)
Being innovative in a traditional setting
Dealing with conflict in a gendered world
Asking for what you want
Encouraging participation; giving feedback; listening effectively; building networks
Simulation –difficult dialogues
Recognizing your strengths and limitations; making decisions effectively; controlling risks;
building and supporting diverse teams; managing uncertainty

4. Session 3

Advancement, promotion, and opportunities; finding ways to build experience
Managing effectively in a gendered workplace – budgets, people (delegating, supervising, evaluating), projects
Mission development and strategic planning
Simulation – case study

5. Session 4 :

Developing the organization/certifying enterprises/CAPACITY BUILDING serving as role models or ambassadors for the organization.
Job satisfaction factors and Work-life balance
Action plan for organizational change
Embracing diversity: Valuing difference, communicating respect, modeling inclusion
Organizational diversity plans

6. Session 5:
 
Mentoring other organizations to get gender equality label Include US  SWE
Catch up time
Revised list of competencies - resume
Program evaluations, professional development plans, and reflective statements
Presentation of Initial Certificates (families and colleagues invited) – last half hour

*The facilitator invites every participant to meet with her alone or with a colleague for a short period before or after an institute session. This is to tailor material to individual needs. (individual meetings will take place in a coffee shop)
