It will also allow for a rewarding experience and musical journey!

Please read the following information regarding Instrumental and Vocal Tuition and complete the form as part of the enrolment process.

PERFORMANCE MUSIC TUITION PROGRAM

Performance Music offers expert individual tuition at the College by specialised instrumental and vocal tutors. The music tutors are dedicated to making the experience of learning music enjoyable and worthwhile. The music tutors at Redlands College:
  • Hold a blue card
  • Support the ethos of the College and
  • Have experience and expertise in their instrument

TUITION FEES
Tuition fees are based on Music Teacher Association QLD rates (GST may apply):

  • 30 min Individual Lessons - $40
  • 20 min Individual Lessons - $27 (Optional for beginner students in Prep - Grade 2)
Group lessons are a possibility and should be discussed with tutors. Payment for lessons is to be directed to the instrumental/vocal tutor. Lessons are invoiced by the tutor at the beginning of each term for that term's scheduled lessons and are payable within two weeks of issue. Tutors are not employed by the College, and therefor carry a significant loss if payment for tuition has not been made.

Parents should also budget for additional purchases relating to the student's tuition. These purchases could include music books, music stand, strings, reeds, oils, backing tracks, exam/eisteddfod entry fees, performance accompanist fees or ongoing instrument maintenance as required. Note that photocopying music or making copies of commercial CD's is not permitted under copyright laws.

TUITION LESSONS
Lessons are half-hour individual sessions. Junior School students have a fixed weekly lesson time. Students in Middle and Senior school will have their lessons on a rotating schedule to avoid students missing out on the same lesson each week. Senior school students have first option of having lessons before/after school or during lunch breaks.

LESSON ABSENCE
It is the responsibility of the student/parents to notify their tutor via phone, email or text message, as far as possible in advance, if a student is unable to attend a lesson at the scheduled time. The lesson fee will be charged for lessons missed without prior notification and No Credit will be given.

Should a student notify the tutor that they can't make a lesson in advance, the tutor will do their best to reschedule a lesson or do a make-up lesson. Just a reminder that our tutors are not employed on a full-time basis and every student has a scheduled time. If your son/daughter miss their lesson, our tutors can't fill that lesson time with another student without prior notice. To make up lessons, our tutors offer their own personal time to be accommodating.

CEASING LESSONS
Please note that if a student enrolled for private tuition subsequently decides to cease lessons, five weeks written notice to the tutor will be required or payment in lieu.

INSTRUMENTAL HIRE
Instrumental hire is available. Annual Hire for Bassoon is $300 and for all other College Instruments $150. Please select this link 2023 Musical Instrument Loan Agreement for more information.

PROGRESS REPORTS
At the end of Semester 1 and Semester 2, tutors will issue a progress-report to parents and students.

AMEB EXAMS AND STATE HONOURS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM
Students can be prepared for AMEB exams if desired, in consultation with the student and parents. Tutors will notify students of upcoming exams should they be interested to participate.

During the year, tutors might nominate students to participate in the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) run by Griffith Conservatorium. This program provides a fantastic opportunity for students to attend workshops during the holidays with students from all over Queensland. Should your child be nominated for this program, information will be sent out to parents regarding the program, cost involved and to confirm your consent for your child to be nominated.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
During the year, students will be offered opportunities to perform in the Musicfest as well as in Instrumental and Vocal Soirees. These events are not compulsory; however, it provides a wonderful opportunity for students to perform in front of a safe and supportive audience. Events will be listed on the Performance Music Calendar. Please select the link: 2023 Calendar of Events for the Performance Music Calendar.

PERFORMANCE MUSIC ENSEMBLES
Through ensembles, students are learning to create music together and learning to play their instrument in a social setting. They are also learning the life skills of understanding their personal responsibilities and the value of commitment, reliability and teamwork. The College's choral and instrumental ensembles rehearse weekly and perform at College Events. In their weekly rehearsal, students are not only rehearsing performance pieces, but they are also acquiring foundational instruction in musicianship, musical literacy and ensemble skills.
