ICS 173 Online Course and ‘Āina Data Stewards Project Application, Spring 2023
Please complete this online form to apply for a 100% sponsorship in Spring 2023 offered through the ‘Āina Data Stewards program at UH Maui College with support from Kamehameha Schools, and indicate if you would like to participate in the OPTIONAL NASA Harvest Applied Project. Once accepted into the program, an email will be sent to you containing information for next steps to join the program.
ICS 173: Intro to Data Science introduces the fundamentals of data science with a focus on the Python programming language for the analysis of real-world datasets. Topics include writing scripts and programs in Python and using tools for cleaning, manipulating, and visualizing data. Introduction to intelligent analysis techniques. No prior programming experience required but basic statistical knowledge is required.
The course will offer the option of participating in an applied project in partnership with Maui United Way and NASA Harvest to collect data for a food security dashboard for Maui Nui.
Schedule: January 9 - May 12 , 2023, asynchronous online with optional weekly Zoom meetings.
OPTIONAL applied project (January 21-May 13, Saturdays): data collection assignments at local farm sites in Maui Nui (students can sign up for site visit days). All course materials will be provided to you at no cost.
