'Welkom in Vlasselt’ onderzoekt hoe we de verloren elementen van de vlasnijverheid terug in ere kunnen herstellen. Gedurende een half jaar willen we alle stappen ondernemen die men vroeger ook doorliep om van vlas tot linnen te komen. Door deze in een hedendaagse context te plaatsen hopen we de blik van participanten te verruimen wat betreft hun waardering van textiel, de voordelen van natuurlijke materialen en de verbinding met de gemeenschap. Samen met Hasselaren zaaien we het vlas in de wijken Kapermolen, Hollands Veld, Katarina Wijk, Heilig Hart, Runkst en in de achtertuinen van geïnteresseerden, we creëren onze eigen tools om het vlas te verwerken en we weven in de straten van de Hasseltse binnenstad. We sluiten het project af met een groots feest aan een lange tafel, gedecoreerd met ons linnen eindresultaat.
Voor dit project zijn we op zoek naar bewoners van Hasselt die hun tuin willen openstellen voor onze vlaszaadjes. Als je deelneemt ontvang je begin april gratis de zaadjes en een publicatie waarin alle stappen staan beschreven om zelf het vlas te zaaien. Deze publicatie bevat ook alle andere activiteiten die we organiseren binnen dit project. Je bent vrij om te kiezen in welke mate je hieraan wil deelnemen. Als je enkel het vlas wil groeien in je tuin dan is dit zeker mogelijk. Heb jij nog wat ruimte (min. M2) ter beschikking? Laat het ons hieronder weten!

'Welcome to Vlasselt' explores how we can restore the lost elements of the flax industry. Over a period of six months, we aim to undertake all the steps that were traditionally taken to transform flax into linen. By placing these steps in a contemporary context, we hope to broaden the participants' perspective regarding their appreciation of textiles, the benefits of natural materials, and the connection with the community. Together with the people of Hasselt, we sow flax in the neighborhoods of Kempische Wijk, Hollands Veld, Katarina Wijk, Heilig Hart, Runkst, and in the backyards of those interested. We create our own tools to process the flax, and we weave in the streets of the Hasselt city center. The project concludes with a grand celebration at a long table, adorned with our linen end result.
For this project we are searching for inhabitants of Hasselt that are willing to open up their garden for a few of our flax seeds. If you wish to participate you will receive the seeds and a publication for free in the beginning of April in which you will find all the necessary steps to grow flax in your garden. This publication also contains the dates of all our other activities within this project. You are free to choose if you want to participate in these activities.
