Preregistration Template Working Group Application

The Center for Open Science (COS) and the Open Science Framework (OSF) are seeking new members for a preregistration template working group with terms beginning in July, 2024. The working group will evaluate and prioritize current and prospective community-developed preregistration templates for possible inclusion in the OSF. The working group will develop evaluation criteria and use those criteria to evaluate templates submitted by the research community.

Members of the preregistration template evaluation working group will serve as disciplinary and methodological experts while providing a community perspective to evaluate potential new preregistration templates for inclusion in the OSF workflow. Members will evaluate, and suggest revisions, to preregistration template submissions. They will provide recommendations to the COS/OSF product development team.

Committee Activities: Members will meet every other month for a one-hour virtual meeting. Prior to these meetings, members will review current and/or potential preregistration templates that have been submitted. The inaugural template evaluation working group will develop criteria and a rubric for evaluating preregistration template submissions. Subsequent meetings will be used to discuss submission templates.

Estimated Time Commitment: Members should expect to volunteer 3-5 total hours a month reviewing potential preregistration templates along with 1 hour every other month for the virtual meeting.  Members serve for a one or two-year term, with the option to renew or opt out of the committee obligations after the first year. Please note, time commitment estimates are subject to fluctuation based on the number of template submissions and current committee goals.

Applicants for the working group will be evaluated based on knowledge of and experience with registration workflows, preregistration and registration templates, and research reporting guidelines. We also seek representation from researchers in diverse research disciplines, varying career stages, different world regions, and demographic groups that are underrepresented in academic research.

This position is voluntary and does not offer a monetary stipend. Review of applications is rolling, but apply before May 31st, 2024 for best consideration.  If you have any questions about the working group or the goals of the group, please contact:
