1. There will be a MANDATORY meeting on Tuesday,
December 6th, 6:00pm in the Council Chambers located at City Hall, 101 E Street, Waterford. All entries MUST have 1 adult representative in attendance including driver to receive safety information. Each entry will be assigned a number that is your place in the line-up. The number and a map showing your placement will be given to you at this meeting.
2. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE ILLUMINATED. The more lights you have, the better your entry will look. Each entry should try to meet the minimum light requirements which are attached; vehicles pulling floats must have lights on all sides.
3. Entries may not exceed 50 feet in length or 5 motorized vehicles. Your entry measurements and set-up specifics must be included on your entry application. Multiple entries will need to be purchased if your entry includes more than 5 motorized vehicles. If your entry the day of the parade does not match your application, you will be asked to comply with registered total length or forfeit entry.
4. All entries are required to have a positive theme and be non-controversial. Entries may be historical, humorous, or modern in design, as long as they are in good taste and appropriate for children.
5. This is a forward motion parade. No stopping is permitted unless directed to do so by parade officials. Entries may not stop to perform.
6. Loud music and identification of entry is highly encouraged. Entries may use sound amplification for musical purposes, but not for addressing the audience—no speeches/campaigning please.
7. For the safety of our spectators and participants, and to maintain the forward motion of the parade, no candy or objects of any kind may be distributed or thrown to the parade spectators from any parade unit or walking group.
8. All gasoline-fueled generators must be quiet & exhausted 12" outside of any contained areas; each entry is required to carry a fully charged fire extinguisher.
9. Maximum height of entry is 14 feet. There are street sections in the downtown area that are narrow; please consider this when designing your float.
10. Entries must arrive at the staging location at the time specified by the City of Waterford.
11. It is the responsibility of each entry participant to keep your staging area clean of any trash.
12. NO alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the staging area or on any entry.
13. Replicas of Santa/Mrs. Claus or persons dressed as Santa/Mrs. Claus will NOT BE ALLOWED in the parade. The only entry that is allowed to have a live Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be the “Official Santa Float”. Santa and Elf hats are allowed and encouraged!
14. All walkers must have a minimum of one strand of battery-operated lights on front and back for safety and visibility, including band members. If children walk, there must be 1 adult for every 10 children to walk with the group.
15. The parade will proceed in lightly rainy weather, so be prepared. Check the City’s and Love Waterford's website and Facebook account for last minute change details. (cityofwaterford.org) (lovewaterford.org)(@cityofwaterford) (@lovewaterfordca).
16. All float drivers must have a passenger as well as spotters stationed at each side of the floats and trailers being pulled. Each driver/passenger/spotter is responsible for ensuring the safety of the float/trailer participants and must be at least 18 years of age and physically able to maintain the pace of the full parade route. Each spotter must wear a safety vest and remain alongside the vehicles.
17. The spotters are the only walkers allowed to accompany floats. No other pedestrians are allowed in the parade unless they are registered as part as a walking group or marching band. No pedestrians may accompany vehicle entries.
18. All motorcyclists MUST wear helmets.—Don’t risk injury or fines!
19. Once the parade has begun, NO ONE is allowed to get off the float/trailer until they have reached the unloading zone. If it’s an emergency, please notify a spotter who can notify a parade official. You will then be safely led away from the parade.
20. Drivers of antique cars and tractors should ensure their entry is able to start, idle, and travel at the pace of the parade without issues. A stalled or lagging vehicle that is interfering with the forward motion of the parade will be escorted out of the parade lineup and forfeit entry.
21. All parade participants are expected to know and abide by all parade rules. Please provide a copy of the rules and maps to all participants in your entry. The person who signs below on the Rules and Regulations form is responsible for this. The signed application will be available to any person in your group who states they did not have access to the rules.
