The next few times you notice either your alarm going off or yourself slipping into full-blown fight-or-flight, test out one of the pausing techniques listed above. Which feel most natural to you?  Are you a counter or an alphabet reciter?  Does taking deep breaths come easily to you?  Are you comfortable with mantras?
