AGS Omega Chapter: Spring 2024 Membership Form
Participation is open to all, but club dues of $15 along with 15 hours of club and/or community service are required for good standing. Do not submit transcripts. The club forwards to Admissions & Records a list of participants in good standing following final grade posting each semester. A&R annotates the student transcripts as follows: 12-50 units earned with 3.0 GPA reads “AGS Seal of Membership”, 60+ units earned with 3.25 GPA reads “Honor Society Seal of Merit”.

Organization History
Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) is unique to the California Community Colleges and your association with it will reflect on this as a matter of pride for a lifetime. Your membership tells senior colleges and prospective employers that you take pride in being a Californian – you are supportive of its great institutions of higher learning and of the curricula, programs and activities that have formed you. You become a stake-holder of genuine interest in a future of integrity, community service, and in the development of future leaders.

The Omega Chapter at City College was established on the Phelan campus in the 1930’s with the purpose of promoting and recognizing academic excellence, providing cultural and social events, and volunteering our services to the college and the community at large. AGS has always operated under the guidance of the Dean of Student Activities and is supported by the Associated Students of City College through the Inter-Club Council. For 70 years, we have provided a venue for leadership, awarded scholarships as well as promoted opportunities for students to build lasting friendships and engage in community service.

Any student may participate in AGS activities, attend AGS meetings, address issues of moment or provide suggestions for club operations and activities. To qualify as a member in good standing, however, requires the payment of $15 semester dues, at least a 3.0 GPA, and the completion of fifteen hours of community service (10 of which are AGS-sponsored events). $5.40 of your semester dues goes to AGS, Inc., the state-wide organization to support annual competitive scholarships. The remaining dues support Omega chapter activities and local scholarships. Exceptions to dues and service requirements will be heard by club advisors on a case by case basis.

As your grades are a matter for privacy and confidentiality, club members have no reason or opportunity to view them. We do not request transcripts for participation, and advisors may view them only for purposes of clarification, for specific advice, or for the award of scholarships. For this reason, only the Office of Admissions & Records accesses or annotates your transcript. To facilitate this, a list of members in good standing is submitted to A&R after grades are compiled following each semester. Those members in good standing who have earned 12-59 units of credit with a 3.0+ GPA will have noted “AGS Seal of Membership” on their transcript; those with 60+ units of credit and 3.25+ GPA will have noted “Honor Society Seal of Merit.”
