The Hot Corner Festival is one of the most culturally enriching festivals held in Athens, GA. As part of their festival weekend, the rich history of the corner of Washington and Hull Street is celebrated and living legends reminisce on the many accomplishments of African American leaders. It is a day of community connection for all ages. Homage is paid through a roll call of any of the businesses that once hailed on Hot Corner, followed by a day of lively celebration. A kid's corner anchors the festival with games, face painting, and jumping bags; local business owners, organizations, and individuals sell their merchandise, live music serves a backdrop all day with performances from local artists, food vendors fragrance the air, and competitions take place such as the BBQ Cook-Off and the Car and Bike Show.
As the festival marks its 24th year, an annual scholarship competition has been part of the committee's commitment to giving back to our community. We will offer and present two $500.00 scholarships during the Hot Corner Festival.
