*Note: All committees are at the discretion of the Speaker and the Secretary, and the process by which selection will occur will vary based on the circumstance/scope of the committee*
Thank you for wishing to join the Legislative Leadership Committee. This committee is made up of all committee chairs, and is chaired by the Speaker of the Assembly. The Legislative Leadership Committee acts as an advisory board to the Speaker and the Secretary, and is involved in the decision making processes of the administration of the Assembly. There are two types of committees, General Committees and Academic Committees.
General Committees are a way to get directly involved with an issue you are passionate about within WSA. Their scope, mission, and size are entirely up to you to determine as Chair. The committee's creation does not require the approval of the Assembly at large, only the approval of the Speaker and the Secretary. The committee's focus can be anything you wish it to be, but here are some examples from the past:
- Disability Committee
- Campus Safety Committee
- Engagement Committee
- Indigenous Advocacy Committee
Academic Committees are a special kind of committee. There are 9 academic colleges at Western, and there are 9 Academic Committees in WSA. The approval process works a bit differently than the committee process, as the Speaker selects the nominee, and then the Assembly votes to confirm the position. The Academic Committee Chairperson is responsible for the following
- Meet with the Dean of your Academic College
- A Forum, whether it be a google form or tabling, at your academic college to gather relevant student concerns
- Act as the representative of your Academic College to the Assembly
I'd also like to mention a new position within the Assembly; The Membership Chair. The Membership Chair works with the Speaker and the Secretary to assist with Attendance and Membership tracking. With the expansion of the Assembly from 30-250 in the last year, we need your help with managing the influx of Students wishing to join the Assembly.
Finally, if you wish to join Legislative Leadership simply as an engaged Student Leader in the Assembly, just indicate that in the form.
