AIA Chicago Foundation Architects in Schools Volunteer Form - Spring 2020
Architects in Schools (AIS) is an initiative focused on bringing architecture professionals into classrooms to introduce middle school students to the field of architecture and to discuss the broader theme of architecture as a change-maker. Volunteers engage the students in critically analyzing their neighborhood for opportunities to create positive change and utilizing architecture as a means for implementing solutions.

The program is structured as a 8-week long program with 4-6 practicing architect volunteers visiting a single classroom once a week for one class period (1.5-2.5 hours-schools vary).  Minimum desired commitment for a professional is 3 classroom visits.  The curriculum consists of an introduction to architecture and design, design exercises, a final group project, and a field trip.
