PX Lab Focus Group Session:  Content Selection

PX LAB'S MISSION STATEMENT:
PX Lab is dependent upon individuals coming together in support of the shared values and goals within the Lab's mission statement--

"We believe in the value of your experiences and insight.  Our purpose is to provide a venue where individual perspectives are shared through bold conversations.  We aim to build a place to be heard and to learn from listening that’s centered on a foundation of courage, authenticity, respect, and engagement."

-----------------

PX LAB'S CODE OF CONDUCT:
By participating in PX Lab events, you agree to uphold the Mission Statement values and Code of Conduct.

Our discussions are based on our individual experiences, learned lessons, and remaining questions.  This is a place to discover and share nuances from numerous individual perspectives that may or may not differ from our own, and presume positive intent in what we speak about.

We are here to:
--be understood as individuals and to understand each other's individuality.
--build an understanding of other ways of thinking.
--gain an awareness of other perspectives.
--exercise our critical thinking skills.
--access each other's wisdom.
--refine our own perspectives.

We are NOT here to:
--speak on behalf of anyone but ourselves as individuals (not members of groups).
--debate or persuade anyone, or determine who is "right" or "wrong".
--give advice or tell each other what to do, think, believe, or buy.
--label and judge each other or "groups".
--change, convert, or “fix” anyone.
--build consensus.

We request that everyone displays their Zoom video so that others in the Lab don't have to speak to disembodied voices behind a static display, and so that we can visually demonstrate our engagement in what each other is saying.  We expect everyone to focus on each speaker and not other screens, phones, people, etc.

We expect everyone to be on time and stay through the open discussion phase.  We will lock the meeting a few minutes after it starts so that late arrivals don't interrupt the group or miss the content.

During the open discussion phase, please be brief and concise so that others are able to speak, and be cautious of speaking over other people.  We will use the "raise hand" and mute features if needed.  If open discussion becomes lengthier than originally scheduled, we understand that some may need to sign-off at that point.

-----------------

FOCUS GROUP GOALS:
We plan on moving PX Lab to Meetup.com once our discussion model is solid.  Focus group volunteers' session participation and your post-event feedback will help us refine PX Lab for Meetup.com transition.

Once on the Meetup.com platform, our longer-term goals are to expand the types of media-review discussion event offerings:  Articles, full-length films, podcasts, subject matter expert presentations, book clubs, workshops, other art-based emotion theme shares, etc.

We want to extend our network across silos and help build a new sense of community.

-----------------

OVERALL EVENT PLAN:
There are two types of PX Lab modules (video-based and music-based) with five topic choices each.  Each of the five choices will be its own PX Lab Focus Group Session.  You can select as many topics as you'd like.  Once we have 8-12 people interested in a topic, we will contact those people to schedule a PX Lab Focus Group Session.

We expect each Zoom session to be between 60-90 mins., depending on how long the content is and how engaged everyone is during the open discussion portion.  All events follow this structure:

1.  INTRO - Quick introduction

2.  CONTENT - Media review; we recommend that you have paper and a writing utensil to take notes

3.  BREAK - 5 min. silent break to gather and organize our thoughts

4.  INDIVIDUAL SPEAKING - Everyone gets uninterrupted speaking time to explain how and why the reviewed media resonated with us or didn't.  An on-screen timer will be displayed so that each person stays within the time limit.  As each individual is speaking, please take notes on what you found particularly poignant or caused you to see something in a different light.

5.  OPEN DISCUSSION - Once everyone has had their chance to speak once, the floor will be available for open discussion.  This is a chance to say the rest of what you wanted to say during your time slot, and share what you found thought-provoking from the other speakers.

6.  POST-EVENT SURVEY - You will receive an emailed, anonymous, post-event survey to share your feedback on our model with us so that we can make it better for future events, and to create a smoother transition onto the Meetup.com platform.

-----------------

I understand that there may be explicit language in the reviewed content and occasionally during discussions.  I want to participate in the media reviews and discussions and will contact heypxlab@gmail.com if any concerns arise: *
If all event participants agree to have the Focus Group Session recorded on Zoom so that the PX Lab Leadership Team can review recordings to create better future sessions, we will record it.  The PX Lab Leadership Team will be the only people who can access the recordings.  If anyone in a session is not comfortable with recording, then the session will not be recorded: *
Video-Based Modules
We want to know what resonates and doesn't resonate with you in these videos.  From our internal testing we've experienced how fantastic the conversations can be when people like and dislike the content--the whys from your individual perspectives and personal experiences are enlightening and make for lively discussion!  So, please choose any you're interested in discussing, whether you enjoy or agree with the content or not.

You can review the content ahead of time or wait until the PX Lab Focus Group Session.

Each person gets up to two uninterrupted minutes to share their perspective on the content before we transition into open discussion.

Music-Based Modules
These session modules are based on the Anger Iceberg from the Gottman Institute (https://www.gottman.com/blog/the-anger-iceberg).  When we move to the Meetup.com platform, there will be other inspirations instead of or in addition to the Anger Iceberg and may include other forms of art shares.

Song Selection Requirement:  Each PX Lab Focus Group Session will be based on one word from the Anger Iceberg.  Each participate will select one song that fits that word for that person personally--whether it's when we're experiencing that particular emotion and choose to listen to this song, the song causes that emotion, the song reminds us of a time we were flooded with that emotion, etc.  The goal is to understand the experience and song connection for one another, not necessarily enjoy each other's songs (although that may happen, too!), so please select something meaningful to you over something to try to please the group.

Everyone will need to send a link or file of the song to PX Lab the day prior to the scheduled session - more detailed directions will be sent during the scheduling phase.

The content review and individual speaking portions will be combined in that the group will hear 1 min. of your song selection with 1 min. for you to provide an explanation.  Once everyone's selections have been heard, we'll move to open discussion.
Choose any words that you're interested in selecting and sharing a related song about during a PX Lab Focus Group Session (select up to 5): *
