In Fine Feather: A Musical Walk at Hiroshi
June 25 and 26 (Fri & Sat)

Birds have long been symbols of hope and renewal, harbingers of warmth and abundance, and a physical manifestation of spiritual freedom, inspiring artists of all stripes. Following the success of The Singing Stream, Electric Earth Concerts (EEC) and the Harris Center are continuing their collaboration with a new musical walk, In Fine Feather, in which participants will download a digital mix-tape of music and poetry inspired by birdsong, interspersed with the sounds of the birds singing themselves. An interactive map will guide the hike with visuals of the birds and tidbits about the poets and composers to be heard on the walk. On June 25th and 26th musician Jazimina MacNeil and poet and naturalist Henry Walters will lead half-hour introductory talks, digging into the stories behind the music and poems, the biology of birdsong, and the ways in which humans and birds listen to and inspire each other. Following the talks on June 25th & 26th, In Fine Feather will remain a part of the Hiroshi Loop Trail in perpetuity. To register for one of the guided pre-walk talks with Jazimina and Henry on Friday,  June 25 at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, June 26 at 4, 4:30, and 5p.m. contact Miles (stahmann@harriscenter.org)

To kick-off In Fine Feather, EEC will present a concert on June 21st which will feature composer Chris Theofanidis’s and poet Melissa Sheppard’s work for string quartet and reader, Conference of the Birds, inspired by the 12th century Persian allegorical poem of this name which chronicles the collective journey of all the world’s birds to find a new leader, culminating in the realization that through their journey they themselves have become the leader they seek.
