IRF 2023 Committee Sign-Up
At its August2023 meeting, the IRF Board decided to reduce the number of standing IRF committees in the interest of improving member participation and refocusing on the core strengths and functions of the organization. It's time to build some momentum! Our goal is to rebuild committee rosters and host first meetings in September. Committees will elect their leadership and identify their initial focus. Read on for information about each committee and click the radio button under a committee to sign up!

Membership Committee - Members are the heart of IRF! The Membership Committee helps ensure that our membership is broadly representative of all areas of recycling and waste reduction in Illinois by identifying gaps in membership, and developing & implementing strategies to fill any gaps. The Membership Committee works closely with IRF staff and the greater Board of Directors to develop a membership drive each fall. It also helps maintain the current membership roster and is instrumental in helping ensure that IRF's work aligns well with member needs.

Any member of IRF is welcome to join the Membership Committee. Meetings will be no less frequently than quarterly, but likely monthly throughout the fall in the run-up to the membership drive.

Communications & Education - Given the nature of IRF as an educational foundation, the Communications & Education Committee is understandably an important crew! This committee works with staff to develop the contents of IRF's monthly newsletter, press releases, the IRF website, and social media posts. It also helps to develop and plan our educational webinars and online professional forums that cover a broad range of critical topics in the recycling space. Due to its broad purview, it is likely that the larger Communications & Education Committee will form subcommittees or workgroups to focus on specific projects.

Any member of IRF is welcome to join. Meetings will be monthly.

Events & Conference - The Events and Conference Committee will help drive the planning of IRF's premiere event - it's annual conference (date TBD, likely June 2024), and any other in-person events. The Events Committee will help develop a compelling technical program, fun social events, networking boosters, and the exhibit hall for the conference. 

Any member of IRF is welcome to join the Events and Conference Committee. It is likely that non-members local to the conference will be engaged once a location is set. Meetings will be monthly and more frequently as needed during conference finalization.

Ad-hoc & Topical Committees - For the moment, we have hit "pause" on the committees that were focused on management of specific materials within the broader recycling world (e.g., clothing & textile, composting, electronics, etc.) However, if there's sufficient interest in having regular discussion with around a particular material or issue, we can organize an ad-hoc committee. If there are any specific materials or topics for which you want to see IRF organize periodic meetings or discussion groups, please describe below:
