PhD Roadmap Workshop, Organised by PhDs for PhDs
This is a workshop designed in partnership by PG students for PG students and will be led by the needs, demands and input from PG students. We will trial this in the School of Microbiology with the intention of it becoming an essential part of the induction and training of PhD students across the College of SEFS and the wider University. Every PhD student will attend this yearly workshop (October/November) and will benefit from the experience of the host of experienced presenters and from the collective peer experience of senior PhD students.
The PhD Roadmap Workshop is designed for students to attend at all stages of their PhD, catering for the different requirements and insights appropriate to each stage of the PhD experience. It will build a sense of community between students as we discuss our experiences in both group work and individual sessions.
The workshop will be a day-long event with two sessions – the morning session will be focused on the PhD foundations, modules/trainings/resources, and guidance for each year of the PhD, clearly signposting the supports and skills development opportunities that can enhance the PhD experience. The afternoon session will be dedicated to transitioning students to the next step and talks from staff and alumni to expose students to life post-PhD.
