Share with us your interests for exploring and being part of Tikkun Olam's Shmita (Release) Year programs. How can we have a modern practice of Shmita where we have rest and rejuvenation for ourselves and the planet, address forms of modern day slavery, and forgive debt? This survey has the topics in which people expressed interest during Elul and Yom Kippur Shmita programs.

We want to connect people with each other who have shared interests.

Some programs are already planned. If a day and time is listed next to an event, check the Havurah Website Calendar for details and to register. For other activities, we need people to help organize to make them happen. We welcome your involvement throughout this Shmita year (and beyond).

Gardening and Gleaning

Learn about food forests (permaculture and other dense food production)

Participate in Mindfulness activities

Creating art to cultivate restoration and mental well-being

Deepen my Shabbat practice in a group with others

Money, Debt and Transforming Financial/Economic Systems

Participate in workshop on Sunday, Nov. 14, 7 to 9 pm to apply shmita principles to our own finances and the larger economy

Be part of on-going study group about financial transformation

Explore emotional and other impacts of having your debt forgiven or forgiving debt owed to you

Learn about and participate in a dedicated debt relief fund (as a donor or recipient)

Explore ways to make your savings, 401K, and other investments green and socially responsible (Impact Investing)

Participate in a "Dayenu Group" to support non-consumerism values and having enough

Taking Action to Protect Our Planet

Learn: Join study/book group to learn about climate solutions, reducing carbon footprints, including Raj Patel, Paul Hawken, etc.

Advocacy: Join with others in lobbying and letter writing to advance climate-positive policies

Walk the Talk: Learn how to live plastic free (workshop and/or on-going study group)

Walk the Talk: Explore the many ways to support increased use of Solar panels whether on your home, as an investment, etc.

Walk the Talk: Explore how to reduce the environmental impact of all sorts of personal and public transportaion

Walk the Talk: Explore ways to collect rainwater, cut back on water use and uses of 'grey water" (from bathing and cooking)

Advocacy: Join with others in lobbying and letter writting to save wild animals and animal habitat

Join with others in the campaign to spay and neuter feral cats and rehome stray cats and dogs

Reparations: Native Americans on Whose Traditional Lands We Live

Research: Connect with Native American communities to learn their needs about reparations

Learn: Attend a forum to find out about making land (or other) reparations to Native American communities in our region

Explore policy and other methods for society-wide reparations

Research: Connect with African American organizations and leaders to learn their needs about reparations

Learn: Attend a forum to find out about making reparations for slavery, red-lining and systemic racism

Justice for Farmworkers, Meatpackers, and Migrant Workers

Research: Connect with farmworker and meatpacker unions/and other advocacy groups to learn their needs

Learn: Attend a forum to find out about how to pursue justice for exploited workers

Explore: ways to take action through advocacy, donations or other methods

Justice for Prison Laborers

Research: Connect with advocacy groups for incarcerated people to learn their needs

Learn: Attend a forum to find out about how to pursue justice for exploited incarcerated people

Research: US companies that use child labor in their foreign factories
