Independent charter schools (ICS) may be eligible to receive state aid payment for providing allowable summer school instruction to eligible students. The school's summer school program must meet statutory requirements. The summer school courses must be academic classes that are related or similar to instruction offered during the regular academic school year. Such instruction must be taught by appropriately licensed teachers, open to all, and no tuition may be charged.

An independent charter school may receive a per student payment for eligible students that attend summer school if the school offers no fewer than 19 days of instruction during the summer and each summer day of instruction offered by the school is comprised of no fewer than 270 minutes of instruction. Schools must submit a summer school payment report by September 15. By June 1, 2022, please complete and submit the following survey indicating your school's plans for summer school. If you have questions while completing the survey or encounter difficulty when transmitting the survey please contact charterschools@dpi.wi.gov.
