Why are we committed to both providing and sharing the CGS program?Providing an effective Faith Formation process for young children and their parents is crucial to give them  a solid foundation of faith.

St. Simon Church celebrated last year our 50th year providing Preschool Faith Formation at the parish.   We are committed to supporting  all of the parishes and catholic schools in the Diocese of San Jose and Santa Clara County, and even the wider Bay Area, who want to launch an Early Childhood Faith Formation process or enhance their program using the effective method called the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS).

Our Catholic Church is struggling with the reality that many Catholics no longer practice the faith.  They do not attend Mass, nor adequately know their faith.

We believe  that providing a solid foundation of faith for young children and their parents is essential to address these realities. Children from birth to six years old learn rapidly.   If we provide quality and excellent faith formation opportunities for these younger children, it will positively impact the cultivation of faith formation at this optimal time of their lives. In addition, if young parents do not know their faith, they cannot be effective primary catechists for their children at home without programs that support their education and responsibility to share faith with their children.

We must provide opportunities for young children and parents to have a quality and excellent foundation of faith for their lifelong faith journey. We need to sow healthy young faith values and not wait until the end of the tunnel to try to fix the issues.  We believe the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd provides this excellent foundation.  We also realize it is an expensive formation program; finding sponsors, donors, and grant writers is necessary for funding to support the sharing of this program.
