The Sokoke Forest MTB Challenge, May 2024
Welcome to the Sokoke Forest MTB Challenge Information Portal. Here you will find information about the race as well as the registration form to fill so you can join in! We're excited that you're interested in taking part and in so doing help put needy kids through school and at the same time help save the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, home to many rare and fascinating species of birds, animals and insects!

Racing for a purpose: By simply taking part, a portion of your entry fee will go towards putting needy students through secondary school with A Rocha’s Eco-bursary scheme, ‘Assets. But you can do even more! As a participant you can also help raise additional funds for Eco-bursaries from friends and family and help even more kids get an education and in so doing protect Arabuko-Sokoke. Please do so! Write to sokoke.mtb@arocha.org for tips on how to do this.

What is Assets? Assets is a scheme that really makes a difference to underprivileged children as well as to the rare and threatened wildlife in Arabuko-Sokoke Forest.  These students live adjacent to Arabuko-Sokoke Forest and most of them would otherwise not be able to attend school.  Most families around Arabuko-Sokoke can’t afford to pay secondary school fees... unless they illegally cut trees down for timber / charcoal or snare animals to sell as bush meat. A Rocha introduced Assets to provide school fees and so remove the need to destroy the forest – but it also brings additional help to the students families through nature-friendly options for generating income and just living (solar power, energy-saving stoves, honey production, improved farming etc).
