Nanaimo Area Public Safety Association - Membership Application

The Nanaimo Area Public Safety Association (NAPSA) is a grassroots volunteer-led organization committed to Public Safety in Nanaimo.  NAPSA exists to promote safety  for children, families, homeowners, neighbourhoods and businesses.  We all deserve to thrive in our beautiful city free from exposure to harmful illicit drug usage, street disorder, property crime and violence.  To qualify for Membership, please complete this Membership Application Form, which has been developed to screen potential members in the interest of ensuring that members' values are aligned with the mandate of the association.

The benefits of NAPSA membership include:

  • Share and receive relevant public safety information through a hidden, private Facebook group.
  • Exclusive access to information relating to NAPSA's specific advocacy objectives.
  • Vote at the AGM and influence the direction of the organization through your advocacy.
  • Learn about the nuances of multi-level governmental policies and how to influence productive change as an engaged citizen.
  • Network with like-minded people in Nanaimo.
  • Obtain insights from community leaders who can help advance public safety-related concerns in your neighbourhood which fall outside of the scope of public services.
  • Volunteer opportunities in our community for positive change.

Membership Rules:

  • No Violence or Threats of Violence.  Under no circumstance does NAPSA tolerate or condone the incitement of violence, vigilantism or otherwise unlawful means of justice  This is a special interest group that represents law-abiding citizens advocating for peaceful resolutions to our city’s public safety concerns.
  • No Hate Speech or Bullying.  Degrading comments regarding race, religion, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
  • Respect Members' Privacy. It is expected that members do not discuss or share other members' involvement in NAPSA activities unless permission is granted by that individual. Maintain the confidentiality of the members of this group in the interest of their personal safety and security.
  • Be Respectful and Courteous.  We are all in this together.  Spirited debates are encouraged, but respectful civil discourse is required.  We may develop a youth component and it is mandatory that we reflect language that will assist them to enter professional fields, volunteer situations and educational opportunities with appropriate communication skills.
  • No Unapproved Promotions or Spam.  The Board of Directors will decide what is appropriate to promote and it must be aligned with its mandate and objectives.
