ICL Wilderness Stewards Program New Steward Application Due June 5, 2022
The U.S. Forest Service and Idaho Conservation League launched the Wilderness Stewards Program in 2016. This program creates and supports a cooperative relationship among ICL, Forest Service, and community members that focuses on quality wilderness stewardship to fulfill the intent of the Wilderness Act.

Sawtooth Wilderness
Hemingway-Boulders Wilderness
Jim McClure-Jerry Peak Wilderness
Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness
Craters of the Moon National Monument and Reserve
Recommended wilderness areas in Payette, Salmon-Challis, and Sawtooth National Forests

What volunteers do:
Volunteers engage in activities such as trail maintenance, trash pick-up, fire ring naturalization, invasive weed eradication. They act as extra eyes, ears, and hands for the Forest Service to educate and inform other trail users about wilderness values.

Season length:
The 2022 Wilderness Stewards Program will run from early June through early November 2022.

Participation Requirements:
Complete a minimum of 4 independent patrols in your designated region
Complete in-person training in June
Be in good health to hike long distances, on varying terrain, at high elevation.
Be CPR or First Aid certified (or able to get certified before the season begins)
