The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program needs community volunteers to provide free tax assistance to low-income families who need help in filing their taxes. Free training is available online with classroom-style instruction offered between December and January. The instruction and training materials cover how to prepare individual income tax returns and how to file them electronically. Since it can be helpful to go through the VITA training and volunteer process with friends or coworkers, volunteers are encouraged to “inVITA” friend to join them!

Volunteer hours are flexible and volunteers can choose to work remotely or in-person. Since you will be handling tax information, the following questions regarding internet access and safety is to ensure the client's confidentiality and security throughout the VITA process.
