Event: Essex Arts & Culture Festival (only open to those who live or work in Essex, MA)

Let's come together and celebrate the arts & culture of Essex!
Do you play music? Make art forms of any nature? Enjoy the art of baking? Let’s not forget the clam digging or shucking! What could be more quintessentially Essex than that? We are looking for ALL interested parties that would like to participate in the Essex Arts & Culture Festival.  

The scope of Art & Culture is a BROAD spectrum and we welcome all those vendors who have interest to apply! The purpose of this festival is to define and celebrate culture in modern day Essex, MA!

The Essex River Cultural District embodies the rich tapestry of culture in Essex, MA. This vibrant cultural hub serves as a platform for fostering community engagement, creativity, and heritage appreciation. The purpose of the Essex River Arts & Culture Festival is to showcase the unique cultural/artistic expressions within our community, promoting collaboration, education, and celebration of Essex’s distinct identity. Through this festival, we aim to enhance visibility for local artists, cultural organizations, and strengthen the bonds within our community and with visitors.

We are interested to know if participating in this event would cause you to incur additional expenses. In order to encourage participation, artists/participants may be eligible to receive a stipend to cover a portion of the additional costs.

Farms/Foods:  

Vendors selling whole, uncut fresh fruit and vegetables, raw honey, pure maple products, and fresh eggs that are maintained at 45° or less are not required to obtain a permit from the Essex Board of Health.  

Artists/Makers: Are not required to obtain a Town of Essex permit.  

Vendors of Prepared Food or Ready to Eat Food *:  

*You are required to obtain a permit from the Town of Essex, at least 30 days prior to the event, as do any other commercially processed pre packaged foods and drinks with a time/temperature requirement. The town permit cost is $50. Please contact the Town of Essex Board of Health Department for the permit forms and payment options.  (see BOH links below)

You’ll be required to attach copies of the following Health/Food Permits with your application.

1. A copy of their Food Establishment (kitchen) Permit from their hometown.  

2. A copy of their Food Manager’s Certificate (e.g. “Serv Safe”)  

3. A copy of allergen video certificate (if applicable).  


Vendors of Alcohol

Please contact the Town of Essex Health Department for current permitting requirements. 

Legal Agreement:  

I am requesting permission to sell at the Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum Event. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless this market, its managers, employees, volunteers and representatives from and against all liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, levies and causes of action suits of any nature whatsoever, arising out of or related to my activities at this market.
