This form is to register for the Young Friends Virtual Retreat, April 17-18th, 2020 happening remotely via Zoom, a video conferencing platform. The theme of this retreat is Sexuality, Gender, and Relationships. At this retreat we'll find ways to connect from far away, check in about how we're doing, and share ways to take care of ourselves and each other during this time. We'll still have fun and be silly together, trying out playing games, being musical and creative, and hanging out, all over video. We'll also dive into the theme, exploring the ways our bodies and identities grow and change over time, practice loving who we are right now, and become better prepared for our futures as we continue to transform.
This retreat will take place with several video call segments starting on Friday evening April 17th and continuing through Saturday April 18th. Use this form to let Maggie know what times work best for you. In order to participate, each YF will need a computer with a webcam, a phone, and a space where they can go that is quiet and somewhat private or removed from others. Please reach out if this is a challenge for your family.
The purpose of Young Friends retreats is to create a space where high school age youth can experience time spent in community, to explore the Quaker faith & its practices, and to engage with the retreat theme. Due to the nature of this retreat, how we carry out this purpose may shift. YFs are still expected to participate as fully as they are able in programmed activities, refrain from behavior that is exclusionary, and help make this virtual experience work for everyone.
Registrations preferred by April 8th.
The cost to host this retreat has been greatly reduced and we understand families may be under considerable financial strain at this time. YFs may participate free of charge, and we appreciate donations of any amount you are led to contribute if able. I will include information about how to donate in the pre-retreat email.
You will not receive a confirmation email after submitting this form. About five days before the retreat, you will receive an email with information including how to set up and use the video conferencing platform Zoom, a little more about what the retreat will look like, some intentions for how to show up fully, and any pre-retreat prep that might be needed on your end.
If you have additional questions about the retreat or if your plans change, please contact the Young Friends coordinator, Maggie Nelson, at
maggie@neym.org.
Please use one form per youth.
