WHO IS THE JUNIOR COUNSELOR PROGRAM FOR?
This program is for highly responsible students entering the 9th-12th grade in the fall who enjoy working with kids.  There are only a limited number of spots available.

A camp leader assists in the daily running of the camp.  They will be an assistant to the counselors in Kids Rock I and II and some of their responsibilities may include:
-Developing positive relationships with the campers
-Being a positive role-model
-Helping counselors set-up and run activities
-Playing with younger campers during free-time
-Participating in activities with positive energy

JUNIOR COUNSELOR  QUALITIES:
Junior Counselors  must:
-Have a positive attitude
-Energy and enthusiasm
-Treat campers with respect and kindness
-Demonstrate responsibility by helping counselors with day to day tasks
-Encourage younger campers to follow camp rules and participate in activities

BENEFITS OF BEING A JUNIOR COUNSELOR:
Being part of the junior counselor  program is a wonderful way for students to develop their leadership gifts.  It is an opportunity to take on a leadership role in a positive learning environment with valuable job training.  It is something that could be put on a resume for future summer job opportunities, and can meet the high school volunteer hours requirement.  Most importantly, being a camp leader is fun!

TRAINING AND MENTORING
The junior counselors  will meet several times per week with the counselors for training and mentoring about how to best perform their camp leadership duties. Additionally, junior counselors  must be able to attend the camp leader training meeting.

QUALIFICATION PROCESS:
All junior counselors must fill out the camp leadership application.  Applications will be reviewed and the leaders and their parents will be notified of the outcome.  Decisions will be made based on availability, application review, references,  and the discretion of the camp director.  Camp leader applications are due by March 31, and the first round of camp leader selections will be made that week.  If we still have openings after March 31 we will continue to accept camp leader applications until all of our spots have been spilled. Feel free to contact the camp director at any time throughout the process with any questions you may have.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO COMMIT TO BE A JUNIOR COUNSELOR THIS SUMMER?
On the camp leadership application, you will be able communicate the amount of time that you would like to be a camp leader at Kids Rock this summer. We have had camp leaders help out for 1-2 weeks, 1-2 days a week, or several weeks of the summer.  We will try our best to accommodate your schedule.  However, the scheduling of junior counselor takes many other factors into consideration as we build our schedule.
