At Exeter's Emergency Roundtable: Retail in a Post-Covid city, hosted by Exeter City Futures, delegates recommended initiatives that they would like to see Exeter adopt.

Benefiting retailers and the retail sector in Exeter, Exeter City Futures is now seeking to identify who in the city is willing to get involved in taking the recommended initiatives forward.

For the eagle-eyed amongst you, we have grouped the recommended initiatives, and in some cases split them out where they covered two or more points.

It's really easy to tell us which initiatives you are interested in supporting:

- Select as many of the intiatives outlined below that you want to help take forward (tick the boxes)

- Let us know if there's any area in Exeter in which you could like to focus your support

Safe, Attractive & Inclusive City Centre

Place-making quick wins such as cleaning, fixing and greening to be more attractive

Realtime information about queues, busy shops, and more to enable visitors to feed confident and safe as they return to the city

Improved availability and access to public toilets and wash spaces

Welcome diversity into the city, this brings people to live, work and study (and more customer spend)

Help independent businesses access more recycling options (also reducing heavy vehicle movement)

Rethink accessibility: public transport, changing rooms, sensory sensitivities, seating

Reimagining the Space - City and Community

Pedestrianise for more people-centred use of city space, increasing dwell times

A regular themed, safe, and comfortable Exeter market day in a covered, outdoor, space

Offer more entertainment, in open space or empty shops, making the city more family friendly

Look for a place that can become a great social space - socially distanced eating, open air cinema,

More experiential or community project spaces: heritage, craft and activity

Seek empty space above shops that could be changed to living space

Low traffic neighbourhoods

More repair/reuse spaces and workshops

Connect retailers with communities, to provide retail in different ways

People-focused Transport and Travel

Delivery network for local retailers

Electric bike-park and cargo bike delivery network to get people and cargo in and out of Exeter

'Park and Change' - park the car and change to more sustainable mode of travel: bus, train, bicycle, car share

Park and Charge initiative - parking hubs for electric vehicles near major bus routes and train stations

More Park and Ride Services

Buses to be electric or hydrogen, not diesel, powered

Car-free retail streets, including areas home to independent retailers

Fewer buses on the High Street

Delivery and collection hubs - reduce lorries, enable aggregated deliveries

Improved mobility options so not everything rests on the car

Working Groups & Business Support

Establish working groups with SMART targets - keep the momentum up and collaborate

Develop specific initiatives - help businesses become digital, support clean transport initiatives etc

Keep focus on climate change - ensure a clean, green, sustainable move towards net zero Exeter

Low business rates, or void business rates for the next 3 years

Review council revenue generation model to identify other income opportunities
