Intro to Knowledge Syntheses
A variety of methodologies have emerged through which existing studies are used as data for the synthesis of existing knowledge. This short course offers postgraduate students and supervisors an opportunity to engage at an introductory level with some of these.

Many scholars are drawn to these approaches because of the proliferation of studies that are not drawn together into one critical evaluation. They are also often considered practical approaches to research when it is impossible to undertake studies on the field (for example, because of Covid-19).

At the end of the course, you will:
*Be aware of the variety of knowledge syntheses available (meta, realist, scoping, narrative and so on),
*Understand the fundamentals of the methodologies,
*Have an awareness of the benefits and shortcomings of such approaches, and,
*Be able to critically read such reviews in their field.

The course will be open to RU students, supervisors and postdoctoral fellows.
It will be entirely online with a-synchronous and synchronous sessions.
It will run for four weeks from 13 July to 21 August

It will include a set of introductory readings and short videos and will engage participants in seeking out and reviewing such texts within their own field.

Those who want to get a short course certificate will need to complete the assessment.

We’re not promising to develop expertise - simply to develop some awareness.
