Professor Alex Godoy-Faúndez, Universidad del Desarrollo

Dr. Alex Godoy, Director of Sustainability Research Center and Strategic Resource Management, also serves as the Academic Director of the Master's program in Sustainability Management at the School of Engineering, Universidad del Desarrollo. He is a Research Associate at the Water Research Center for Agriculture and Mining, awarded in the Fifth National Competition for Research Centers in Priority Areas by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT).

With a focus on Sustainability Science, Dr. Godoy aims to understand the intricate relationships between Engineering, Society, and Sustainability. His research endeavors are dedicated to developing analytical frameworks that elucidate the causes and impacts of contemporary events, contributing to sustainable development. He applies system modeling techniques to comprehend local systems, integrating natural resources, climate factors, and infrastructure requirements with societal and political frameworks, facilitating informed decision-making at the public policy level.

Throughout his career, Dr. Godoy has received numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the 100 young leaders by the Center of Leadership, Universidad Adolfo Ibañez. He has been honored with awards such as Academic Excellence and Best Paper at The International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology and the Young Researcher Award at the European Bioremediation Conference. Additionally, he has actively contributed to advisory boards of governmental institutions, including CONICYT, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Environment, providing expertise on innovation and sustainability policies.

Internationally, Dr. Godoy engages in Science Diplomacy initiatives, notably as an alumnus of the Global Young Academy and a member of Nexus KAN within the Future Earth organization. He has contributed significantly to global reports on food security and nutrition as a member of the High-Level Panel of Experts Steering Committee on Food Security and Nutrition.

Dr. Godoy's commitment to scientific research extends to his role as a Review Editor for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report and a lead author for the Global Environment Outlook for Business at the United Nations Environment Program. He has also served as an expert reviewer for various United Nations reports and projects, emphasizing his dedication to advancing sustainability agendas on a global scale.
