Thank you for your interest in being part of the security team for Pop-Up Hanami, I am grateful that you are willing to volunteer but you should be fully aware of the commitment required and your responsibilities if you join the security team.
For your reassuranceAs a member of the security team, you are not expected to handle any violence or uncomfortable situations. Your job is mainly to monitor, keep track, and guide attendees where necessary. The extent of your authority is simply to act as mediator or negotiator. The extent of your power is contacting the Security Team Lead
Afiq, or campus security. Additionally, you do not have to cosplay, but you are free to do so.
For ease of identification, all security team members inside the event space will be wearing a high visibility neon-green arm band provided for by the club. Additionally, to enable quick reaction and coordination with the execs and planning committee, some team leads and security team members may have access to walkie-talkies.
Security Team Opportunities:
Since the behind the scenes part of the event covers more than just the event space itself (the Great Hall + Foyer), not every role will be intense or require much labor. While you will be able to put your preference for role and break types, ultimately your shifts will be decided based on fairness and necessity.
The different roles for the security team will fall under two categories of intensity:
Higher Intensity: (involves talking and/or assisting other event teams, as well as active monitoring and guiding of members)
- Cafe Entrance (Assist cafe/server team with managing line and entry)
- Event Entrance (Great Nest Foyer, managing the lineup)
- Floater (Event space outside the cafe)
Lower Intensity: (involves mainly sitting in one space for a long period of time)
- 2314, 2311 (Cosplayer/Performer prep room and team storage rooms)
- 2504, 2506, 2508 (Kitchen and Drinks team equipment and material storage rooms)
Lastly, please be aware that every volunteer, not just the security team, is basically expected to show up early and hang around/help out the whole day, the more people we have, the faster everything goes. However, we totally understand if there are unforeseen situations which prevent you from showing up, or that means you must leave early.
