This competition is open to all novice, hobbyist and culinary student bakers (must not be a professional baker or pastry chef), 16 years and up and with a valid residential address in Hong Kong.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. THEME:  Name your special Cookie. Texture: Crunchy, chewy, and interesting!

2.  CHOICE OF INGREDIENTS (Qualifying Recipe Content, combination of):
FLOUR *: Whole Wheat Flour, Rice Flour, Tapioca Flour, All Purpose Flour, Gluten Flour
OTHERS: Other ingredients, i.e. dried mixed fruits, white sugar, brown sugar, honey, olive oil, vegetable oil, butter *, chocolate *, black sesame paste, almond, cashew, hazelnut, chili flakes, black pepper, star anise*, baking powder, sodium bicarbonate, milk powder, cheese, milk, eggs or egg replacer.
HERBS (required): Rosemary or mint (Sponsored by Hysan Development’s Hysan Urban Farm).
OWN INGREDIENTS: You may add only two more of your own ingredients of choice.
* Sponsored Ingredients:
The following ingredients may be sponsored: Flour, Butter, Chocolate, Spices, Cheese.
You will be informed once Sponsors have been confirmed. Available on first come first serve basis.

3.  SIZE OF COOKIES:  35 - 50gms each.

4.  SUBMISSION DEADLINES
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 31 July 2021
QUALIFYING ROUND 2 August 2021. The top 20 qualifiers will move on to the first baking round.
1ST BAKING ROUND 28 August 2021. The top 10 qualifiers will move on to the next round.
2ND BAKING ROUND 25 September 2021. The top 5 qualifiers will move on to the final round.
3RD BAKING ROUND & FINALS 30 October 2021. The winner will be announced on that day.

5.  JUDGING CRITERIA
Your cookies will be judged on taste, innovation and passion. 
Participants will not be judged by their baking skills or for how many years they have been baking.
* Head Judge:  Ms. Louisa Ho, President of Hong Kong Bakery and Confectionary Association; External Moderator for SHINE Skills Centre, an entity and part of Hong Kong VTC; Advisor to EAGAA since its formation.

6.  BAKING ROUNDS:
a) Qualified participants will be making the same Entry Cookies at the designated locations of Complete Deelite Ltd. (Central) or Hong Kong New Oriental Culinary Art (North Point).
b) During your hands-on Baking Rounds, you are required to bring all of the needed ingredients. These ingredients will be marked and shown before you start baking.
c) You will need to prepare everything on site and have completed your baking.
d) You will need to finish your assignment within the allotted time of 60mins (15mins to set up and 15mins to close down & clean your work station, total of 90mins).
e) You need to be at your work station on time. No extra time be allotted if you arrive late.
f) After you have completed your bake, please hand over your product to the overseer for the judges to taste at the end of each Baking Round. DECISIONS MADE BY THE JUDGING PANELS ARE FINAL.

All mobile phones and devices have to be be switched off during the Baking Rounds.
Photos taken during judging may be used by the Organizer for future publicity or for any other purpose.

7.  The Organizer reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any person who does not comply with the Rules of the Competition as set out herein; does not respect the conditions, services, terms of use and/or general rules or relevant guidelines of the Competition sites; acts in an unsportsmanlike or disturbing manner or with intent to obstruct, abuse, threaten or harass any other person or engage in fraud and dishonest practices.

8.  Entry Cookies for the QUALIFYING ROUND need to be submitted by hand to COMPLETE DEELITE, 3/F On Lan Centre, 11-15 On Lan Street, Central,  or HONG KONG NEW ORIENTAL CULINARY ART 香港新東方廚藝培訓, 2/F, KP Tower, 93 King’s Road, North Point, on or before 2 August 2021.
All ingredients used and Cookie Name need to be submitted in written form together with your Entry Cookies.

9.  ENTRY FEE: HK$350 to be settled upon registration.
(HK$150 additional fee for Final 20 Qualifiers round. To be settled on or before the 1st Baking Round).
ENTRY FEE is non-refundable.

PRIZES
1st Place: $3,000, plus equipment / product prize
2nd Place: $1,000, plus equipment / product prize
3rd Place: $500,  plus equipment / product prize

OFFICIAL RULES
A) RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION:
As consideration for entering the Contest, Participant agrees to hereby release, indemnify, and hold harmless the Organizer and its trustees, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any and all liabilities, damages, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Contest. I agree that all the provisions hereunder shall be binding upon me as well as my collective heirs, legal representatives, and assigns.

B ) RULES CHANGES AND INTERPRETATIONS:
The Organizer reserves the right in its sole discretion to supplement or make changes to these Rules at any time without notice. The Organizer also reserves the right in its sole discretion to interpret the Rules, and such interpretation shall be binding upon all participants.
 
C) PUBLICITY RELEASE:
Participant authorizes and grants to the Organizer permission to, from time to time, reference and discuss Participant and their participation in the Contest on their website, in photographs, video recordings, digital images, audio recordings, publications, newsletters, news releases, promotional or other printed materials, and in materials made available on the Internet or in other media now known or hereafter developed for any purpose the Organizer deem proper. Such reference and discussion may include (but not be limited to) Participant's name and other personal/biographical material.

Winners can agree or disagree to support COOKIE SMILES and EAGAA to use their creative and edible arts for any upcoming charity campaign. Organizer may promote the winning Cookie to their sponsors and the winners will get full credit for their production contribution, subject to a written agreement were applicable.


I have read and understand the above TERMS & CONDITIONS & OFFICIAL RULES of the 1st Cookie Baking  Contest and by continuing the registration process agree to follow these Rules of the competition.
