The iPhone™
Last summer, Kevin's dad had offered to buy Kevin an iPhone™ as a reward for doing three things:
1. Kevin had to get at least three A's and 3 B's on his final 8th grade report card.
2. He needed to be the assistant coach to his dad on his brother's basketball team.
3. Lastly, he had to take care of his little sister after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for the whole year.
Well, Kevin did it, and his whole family was proud of him. He and his family went to the electronics store to pick out the iPhone™. He knew it was going to be a 64GB model, but he had not decided on the color. The iPhones™ came in black, white, silver and red. The store was out of silver, so his decision was a little easier. His mom suggested he choose the red one, because she always thought Kevin looked good when wearing red. That’s the color he picked.
It was late when Kevin's family got home, which Kevin thought was for the best, because he wanted to use his iPhone™ right away, but he also knew that he had to charge the battery for at least 8 hours. Before going to bed, Kevin connected the iPhone™ to the family computer to charge the battery.
When he woke up on Saturday morning, instead of eating breakfast and watching cartoons as he typically did, Kevin began downloading the songs he had in his music library. Kevin was surprised by how quickly his more than 150 songs showed up on his iPhone™.
Kevin also knew it was possible to download TV shows and movies onto his iPhone™. He looked online, and he found his favorite Science Show on the Discovery Channel, MythBusters, had episodes he could download. Each episode cost $1.99.
After his parents had breakfast, he cleaned up their plates and asked his mom if she could purchase a show for him. Kevin gave his mom $20 he had earned mowing lawns in the neighborhood, and she used her credit card to put $20 in an online account for him. Kevin immediately bought one episode of the show. He wanted to buy more, but he thought his parents would get mad if he spent his money so fast.
While he was sitting at the computer, he noticed his mom was about to get on the treadmill to do her morning exercise. Kevin asked his mom if she wanted to use his iPhone™ while she was doing her jogging. She had never used one before but decided to try it. Kevin chose a playlist of fast songs he thought she would like. Kevin's mom ran faster on the treadmill than he had ever seen. She was smiling from ear-to-ear and sweating like crazy when she was finished.
Kevin’s dad loved to shoot videos of the family at home and for special occasions. He was always editing the movies on the computer. He asked Kevin if he knew how to put home movies in the iPhone™ the way he saw them playing in the commercials. Kevin thought he could do it, but checked on the Internet first to see if he could find the instructions. Once he understood how to do it, Kevin showed his dad how the home movies were converted and added to their playlist.
In the car on the way over to their Grandma’s house, Kevin sat in the back seat with his little sister Jessica and showed her some of the home movies he had imported to the iPhone™. Kevin’s parents commented that they had never seen Jessica so quiet in the car! After dinner, Kevin sat on the sofa with his grandma and showed the movies to her, too!
