2022-2023 Student Application
Are you interested in taking the SHSAT? Looking for ways to develop your critical thinking skills? Interested in new test-taking strategies and more? If so, consider signing up for free SHSAT tutoring with us!

The Aim Project is an organization dedicated to tackling education inequality among prospective New York City high school students by providing free SHSAT tutoring. In one of the most diverse cities in the world, deep disparities exist at our Specialized High Schools. With the help of student volunteers, the Aim Project strives to increase diversity in the city’s most elite high schools.

Our tutors are from top-ranking NYC high schools, are experienced with the material found on the exam, and are well-qualified to work with students! Volunteers will work closely with students throughout the school year and ensure they learn the necessary skills to succeed on the test. The program duration and schedule is listed in this form under 'PROGRAM AVAILABILITY.'

If you are an NYC middle schooler entering the 7th grade this fall and you plan on taking the SHSAT next year, please fill out this form to apply to be a student with us!

Because most NYC schools are returning to in-person schooling this year, the Aim Project will provide both in-person and online tutoring sessions, depending on student and tutor preference and availabilities.

PROGRAM AVAILABILITY
For the 2022-2023 school year, the Aim Project will run from September until June with ONE tutoring session every week. The beginning of each session will be dedicated to learning a designated chapter outlined in the curriculum. The second part will be dedicated to chapter review via practice problems/homework assigned for that chapter. Practice SHSAT exams will be administered periodically throughout the program. Each session lasts for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

IMPORTANT: Students can either have their session every Saturday from 10AM to 12PM OR on a designated day, once a week after-school. All students must be available and on time for all of their sessions, with the exception of school holidays and breaks.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aim Project will provide both in-person and online tutoring sessions, depending on student and tutor preferences and availabilities. In-person sessions may take place at a designated location, typically a public space, that is convenient for and decided upon by both the student and tutor. Online sessions will take place on either Zoom or Google Meets.

Students must give at least 24 hours advance notice of absence, and 5 absences may result in dismissal from the program.
