Why create a Philadelphia youth tap summit? Those of us 'elders' who remember a time when Philly kids had a lot more chances to perform, be inspired and meet other like-minded kids in tap dance have been discussing for some time how to make that happen again.
What are the goals for this summit? We hope to create a fun, engaging, educational and joyful environment that is non-competitive and inclusive for all.
Summit Regulations:
1) This event is aimed for dancers with some tap dance experience, ages 7-17. If you have a tap dancer who loves to tap dance, then this event is for them.
2) All dancers must be escorted into and out of the Rec Center by an adult. Dancers will not be checked in without an adult present. All dancers will only be checked out of the Center with an accompanying adult.
3) The spotlight class with Baakari Wilder is the primary activity of the summit. The class is mandatory for dancers who wish to perform in the showcase and/or participate in the jam.
4) Dancers participating in the showcase must stay for the entirety of the program. There will be no early exits permitted.
5) No dancer is turned away for lack of funds. Please call with scholarship requests.
6) All registrations are tax-deductible. The summit is a fiscally-sponsored program of the Philadelphia Jazz Tap Ensemble.
For Performing Dancers: Once registration is received, any performing dancers will be contacted separately with further questions for the program.
