Special Olympics Utah is forming an inclusive group of youth leaders to represent their School and Region as advocates, advisors and participants in leadership development training. Twelve youth leaders (six Unified pairs) with and without intellectual disabilities aged 15 to 19 years old (Sophomores in High School-Freshman in College) will serve on the Youth Activation Committee (YAC) for two years (Aug 2021 – July 2023) in a role focused on training, engagement and activation at the State level. The major areas of responsibility will include:
Responsibilities:
Actively participate in quarterly YAC conference calls and monthly YAC check-in
Promote Unified Champion Schools on social media outlets
Participate in SOUT youth leadership opportunities (i.e. speeches, presentations, activities, events etc.)
Participate in or help to recruit individuals to play Unified Sports
Coordinate school activities to promote inclusion (i.e. Spread the Word: Inclusion campaign, fundraising, Unified Championship Schools, etc.)
Develop strategies, lead initiatives, and organize events that promote the respect, inclusion, and acceptance of all people, regardless of abilities.
Participate in one SOUT fundraising event (i.e. jump with the YAC Polar Plunge team, volunteer for a Harmons Rootbeer Float shift)
Attend YAC Retreat (one Saturday in September) – mandatory*
Attend and volunteer with the YAC at Fall Soccer Tournament (Oct 8 & 9) – one day mandatory*
One Unified Pair will be selected from the YAC to represent Utah at the 2022 USA games in Orlando.
