The Fort Washington Alumnae Chapter (FWAC) of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. implemented Project P.O.W.E.R.: Preparing Our
Women and Empowering Re-Entry. This program will address the holistic needs of
women returning to our community. Through this new initiative we will partner with
the county to impact the lives of women ex-offenders and those formerly incarcerated
in Prince George’s County.
Over the course of six workshops from February - May, Project P.O.W.E.R. will focus on three phases:
career exploration; financial fortitude; and physical and mental health. Workshops
will be centered around teaching interviewing skills and techniques and preparing the
participants for the workforce, learning how to balance a bank account, budget
development, and financial management, and re-engaging with family and children.
We will seek collaboration with partnering institutions including corporations and
community-based organizations as sponsors to provide in-kind contributions.
FWAC will implement Project P.O.W.E.R., reentry readiness program to offer
women a second chance at life after incarceration by providing them with resources
and opportunities that address the needs of women returning citizens. We invite you
to join us!
