If accepted to the program, participants will be grouped into one of five hui, each focused on a different theme:
1. Health and Well-being - includes food security, student mental health, bullying
2. Climate Change & Sustainable Ecosystems - includes climate actions related to renewable energy, fossil fuel reductions, and energy efficiency; plastics reduction; native ecosystem restoration; pollution
3. Social Justice & Culture - includes equity for race, indigenous people, gender equality, LGBTQ+
4. Quality Education - includes issues related to equity, school to prison pipeline
5. Building a Resilient Hawaii - includes COVID response; disaster preparedness; decent work and economic growth; peace, justice, and strong institutions

Identify an issue that relates to one of the 5 themes. The issue could be listed as an example above or one that is not listed. Why do you care about this issue and why does this issue matter? What kind of solutions do you think are needed to address it? Be factually accurate, persuasive, and detailed in your proposed solutions.
SUBMISSION OPTIONS:
Option 1: Write an essay. Maximum length: 500 words
Option 2: Create a video. Maximum length: 5 minutes
Option 3: Your choice. Be creative. The amount of work should be equivalent to options 1 and 2.
