Program organizers will do our best to support successful applicants faced with difficulties related to virtual learning, poor internet/lack of internet connection at home, no home computer or tablet, lack of access to a quiet space, or any other difficulties. Please specify any challenges you think you might encounter. If you do not anticipate any issues, please write N/A.
Creative Submission
If accepted to the program, participants will be grouped into one of five hui, each focused on a different theme:

1. Health and Well-being - includes food security, student mental health, bullying
2. Climate Change & Sustainable Ecosystems - includes climate actions related to renewable energy, fossil fuel reductions, and energy efficiency; plastics reduction; native ecosystem restoration; pollution
3. Social Justice & Culture - includes equity for race, indigenous people, gender equality, LGBTQ+
4. Quality Education - includes issues related to equity, school to prison pipeline
5. Building a Resilient Hawaii - includes COVID response; disaster preparedness; decent work and economic growth; peace, justice, and strong institutions

PROMPT:
Identify an issue that relates to one of the 5 themes. The issue could be listed as an example above or one that is not listed. Why do you care about this issue and why does this issue matter? What kind of solutions do you think are needed to address it? Be factually accurate, persuasive, and detailed in your proposed solutions.

SUBMISSION OPTIONS:
Option 1: Write an essay. Maximum length: 500 words
Option 2: Create a video. Maximum length: 5 minutes
Option 3: Your choice. Be creative. The amount of work should be equivalent to options 1 and 2.

This program requires participants’ commitment to attend all sessions. If your child is selected for this program, we request your support in enforcing this agreement by not scheduling anything that conflicts with program dates and reminding your child that this program will take priority over other activities, including proms, extra-curricular activities at school, and/or community events.

By completing this application, I/we consent that this information, along with information from school records, teachers, counselors or deans can be used in determining my/our child’s suitability for this program.  I/we further acknowledge that Program Organizers reserve the right to select participants for this program based on the Program Organizers' determination of each student’s suitability.
